The Colonel Abram Penn Chapter of the DAR met on February 12 following a luncheon at The Landmark Center in Stuart. Eight members were present.
The meeting was called to order by Chapter Regent Louise Hansen. Guests at the meeting were Frances Woods of Richmond, sister of DAR member Lucy Rudd, and Julie Alley, administrator of Team Nurse. Alley was the guest speaker and spoke on the services provided by Team Nurse.
Officers’ reports and committee reports were presented: Mary Ann Franklin shared a United States flag quiz for the “Flag Minute.” She also presented the “Indian Minute” detailing the Seminole Tribe timeline and pictures of Chickee huts.
Onie Vaughn reported on the importance of being good stewards of the environment for the “Conservation Minute.” The nutritional benefits of butternut squash was the topic of Flo Bell’s “Health Minute.”
For “History Minute” Regent Hansen reminded the members that the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincolm are commemorated as Presidents’ Day this year on Monday, February 19.
The origin of Black History Month was reported by Diane Ross for the “Commemoration Event Minute.”
Regent Hansen announced that she and Ann McConnell will attend the 122nd State Conference Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution March 16-18 at the Richmond, Marriott, Richmond.
The chapter received a letter of appreciation from the administrator of Crossnore School and Children’s Home for school supplies sent to the students. A program of “Music from the War Eras” was performed by Regent Hansen who accompanied herself on the piano. Ann McConnell
