David Larry “Buddy” Smith, 86, passed away on March 12, 2022, at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie VA. He was born on December 21, 1935, to Opal Dameron and Otis Smallwood Smith in Russell County VA. Larry was an elder at Marion Gospel Chapel for over 50 years. He was a missionary for American Missionary Fellowship, ministering through released time Bible classes and Bible schools. He worked closely with many churches in Smyth, Russell and Wythe Counties. He was married to Sylvia Kay Jefferson on December 19, 1956. Family members; daughters, Laura Teaters Brown and spouse Ted, Joyce Marie Collins (deceased); grandsons Aaron Teaters, David Preston Teaters and spouse Dannelle; Matthew Counts and Tyler Counts and spouse Grace; great granddaughters Olivia and Eloise Teaters. Siblings Joann Carty (deceased), Nada Kelley and spouse, Denise Minor and spouse, Renea Insalago and spouse, Otis Lee Smith, Vanessa Pritchard and spouse.
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the lord and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Chilhowie Baptist Church. Graveside Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Claudville, VA.
