Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 to participate in the Democratic Presidential Primary.
All polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. A sample ballot is printed in this newspaper showing the names of the candidates.
This ballot was pre-printed and some of the candidates are no longer running in the primary. The names of those individuals included who have dropped out of the race as of Feb. 24 are Cory Booker, Julian Castro, Marianne Williamson, Michael Bennet, Deval Patrick and Andrew Yang.
Remember that Virginia residents do not register by party. Because of that, and the fact that the Democrats are the only party holding a presidential primary (Virginia Republicans will choose their delegates to the Republican National Convention at a state convention), any registered Virginia voter can vote in the March 3, 2020 Democratic Presidential Primary.
Voters are also reminded to bring an acceptable form of photo identification with them on Election Day. Virginia law requires that all voters present an acceptable form of photo identification when voting. A free voter photo identification card is available to any registered voter who does not already possess a valid form of identification and can be obtained by visiting any Registrar’s Office.
Patrick County Registrar Susan Taylor said that about 30 percent of the county’s eligible voters cast ballots in the 2016 dual primary. She also said that there “has not been very many” people to sign up for an absentee ballot so far.
A registered voter needing to vote by absentee ballot may do so in person in the Registrar’s Office. The final day for in person absentee voting is Saturday, February 29, at 5 p.m. For additional information, contact the Registrar’s Office at 276-694-7206.
