Dorothy Ivalien Hylton Belcher Reynolds, age 87 of Patrick Springs, went to be with her Lord and Savior on 31st October 2020. Ivalien was born in Meadows of Dan, Virginia on October 2, 1933. She was preceded in death by her parents Stowell Hylton and Gracie Hall Hylton, her husband Ellis Reynolds, and her beloved son and grandson, Ronald Steven Belcher and Christopher Ron Belcher.
Ivalien walked this Earth 31,785 days and did not waste a single day. She devoted her life to the service of her fellow man. Ivalien taught Sunday School, ran calls for the rescue squad, delivered meals to the hungry, volunteered at the Jesus House, and worked three days a week at the food ministry until six weeks ago, when she became ill. She worked twenty-four years at Bassett-Walker Knitting, another twenty-four years at Poor Farmers Farms, and at All Seasons Garden Center until a couple years ago. In addition to working full-time, Ivalien wrote forty-four much-loved stories for the Mountain Laurel newspaper and she wrote the Mountain Top Party Line column for the Enterprise for nearly forty years. Ivalien received the Patrick Springs Ruritans Outstanding Citizenship Award in 2014.
Left to cherish her memory are her stepson, Reverend Connell Reynolds, daughter in law Darlene Wyrick, brother in law, Calvin (Linda) Reynolds, sister in law, Hilda Nittler, and nieces Janice Lawson and Jackie Spencer. Ivalien will be sadly missed by cousins, Ruby Asbury, Shirlien Belcher, Joyce Sweeney, and Beverly Woody and friends, Bonnie Goad, Lanita Harris, Cheryl Sutphin, Reva Shough, Mike and Sue Hall, Larry and Teresa Martin, Van and Donna Rowe, Jerry and Rhonda Morgan, and Steve and Connie Greer.
Ivalien will be lying in repose from 12:00pm to 5:00pm on Monday, November 2nd at Moody’s Funeral Home in Stuart, Virginia for those wishing to say goodbye. Due to Covid-19, there will be no family present during this time. A private graveside service will be held at Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery. Ivalien will be laid to rest beside her beloved Ronald and Chris, whose graves she has faithfully tended for thirty-two years. A celebration of Ivalien’s reverent and remarkable life will be held in the spring of 2021.
