The eighth annual covered bridge 5k was held on Saturday in Woolwine, with perfect weather at the start of the event, according to Stephanie Vipperman, organizer.
Nearly 80 people attended the race; some traveled all the way from Eatonton, Georgia and Quinton, Virginia. Participants ranged in ages five to 71 years-old, she said.
The course wound through Jack’s Creek Covered Bridge and ended at the site of the former Bob White Covered Bridge, according to Vipperman. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Patrick County satellite site of the Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center.
Amanda Honore Donley, of Rose Window Studio, created custom stained glass pieces of the covered bridge for overall race winners. She also created art prints of a runner coming through the covered bridge. The prints were attached to custom mattes for other winners.
