Fire caused heavy damage to the home of Michelle Hughes on May 2, according to a report from Steve Allen, emergency management coordinator.
Firefighters from the Patrick Springs, Moorefield Store, CCDF, Patrick Henry, Horsepasture and Stuart volunteer fire departments responded to the 9:30 p.m. fire at 117 Dr. Tatum Lane, Allen said. They were on the scene until around 1 a.m.
The J.E.B. Stuart Rescue Squad and Patrick County Emergency Management also responded. No injuries were reported.
The fire was probably caused by lightning, Allen said, noting that the National Weather Service confirmed thunderstorms in the area at that time.
The wood frame house was partially destroyed with damage to three rooms, Allen said.
He commended the fire departments for “doing a great job in knocking the fire down.”
