A home in the Ararat area was destroyed by fire Sunday night, according to a report from Steve Allen, county emergency management coordinator.
The call was made at 6:02 p.m. to a fire in a wood frame house located at 101 Ararat Highway, Allen said.
The residents, who were not identified, were not at home when the fire occurred, and no injuries were reported.
About 30 firefighters were on the scene until around 9:30 p.m.
Departments responding to the fire were Ararat Volunteer Fire Department, Ararat Rescue Squad, CCDF Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Cana Volunteer Fire Department, the Four-Way Volunteer Fire Department from Surry County, N.C., the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office, and the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Allen said.
