Blue Ridge Heritage (BRH) will host its fifth annual Veterans Fishing Day at the BRH Education Center on May 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Veterans and a guest are welcome to “Enjoy the Simple Life” while throwing their line in for Rainbow Trout, enjoying friends and sharing a lunch served by the PCHS Fishing Team. Members from Smith River Trout Unlimited will be on-site to assist.
If you are a veteran, bring your tackle, your bait, and your chair and attend the event that will be held rain or shine. It is located at 902 Rock Castle Gorge Road (Virginia 720). This location is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Mile Marker 170.5.
BRH works to promote education and economic development through place-based programs related to the natural and cultural heritage of the Blue Ridge in Southwestern Virginia’s bi-county area of Floyd and Patrick counties. Recent and upcoming programs include a hawk watch, a night sky program, a fly-tying class, a bird watching hike, a trail building seminar and a local history presentation related to the American Chestnut Tree.
Programs are free and open to the public. Details can be viewed on the BRH web site at brheritage.org. BRH welcomes individuals, families and businesses as members or volunteers to join the effort to bring quality programs to the Floyd and Patrick county areas that serve to promote our rich natural and cultural heritage.
