The Patrick Henry Community College Board welcomed five new members: Monica Hatchett, Wayne Moore, Robert Vogler, Dr. DelShana LeGrant, and William O’Brien.
Hatchett was appointed to the college board by Henry County for a four-year term. She currently works as the Director of Communications for Henry County Public Schools. Hatchett also has held a variety of teaching positions – teaching elementary, middle, and high school students around the region. She also currently serves as the board secretary for the Boys and Girls Club of the Blue Ridge.
Moore was also appointed to the college board by Henry County for a four-year term. He has held many positions within Henry County Public schools over the years – including Assistant Principal, Director of Vocational Education, and Principal. He has served as principal of elementary schools, middle schools, and high school throughout Henry County.
Vogler was appointed to the college board by the City of Martinsville for a four-year term. A PHCC distinguished alumnus, Vogler attended PHCC when it was still called Patrick Henry College of the University of Virginia. He has served in a number of positions within Henry County Public schools including teacher, Assistant Principal, and Director of Student Services. Currently, he serves as on board of directors for the MHC Coalition for Health and Wellness and for the Oakwood Cemetery.
LeGrant was appointed by the City of Martinsville to fill an unexpired four-year term ending June 30, 2022. LeGrant currently works as a Preschool Coordinator and Exceptional Children Support for Caswell County Schools. She has held several positions as an educator in North Carolina and Virginia. She has worked with students from ages 2 to 18. In 2012 she was named Caswell County Schools Teacher of the Year.
O’Brien, a U.S. Air Force Veteran, was appointed by Franklin County to a four-year term. With an extensive background in computer science, O’Brien has served as the Senior Systems Engineer for a variety of companies. Through this work, he had the opportunity to give talks on Artificial Intelligence for a CIA symposium; write code for the New York Stock Exchange, Delta Airlines, and Nokia; and work on a quantum computer project that made the February 2014 cover of Time magazine.
Collins, a familiar face on the board, has been reappointed by Henry County to serve a second four-year term beginning July 1, 2020 and expiring on June 30, 2024.
The PHCC College Board is comprised of members of the communities served by Patrick Henry Community College. Members are appointed by the governing bodies of the jurisdictions they represent. PHCC serves the City of Martinsville and the counties of Henry and Patrick.
