The Meadows of Dan Community Association issued an open invitation for all to attend the 14th annual Folk Fair that will be held on August 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Meadows of Dan.
The fair encompasses many areas of the community, with events spread throughout the Meadows of Dan area. From Concord Corner Store, down to the Community Center, fair-goers will find plenty of entertainment.
The Country Boys will perform at 2 p.m. at the Meadows Mercantile.
A new group, Blue Ridge Story Space, will hold a storytelling event at the Community Center at noon. The local literary arts organization brings people together to celebrate the mountain tradition of oral storytelling. The organization is putting together a special Blue Ridge Story Space event for the Folk Fair, and is in need of 15 storytellers to sign up to tell one 5-7 minute story each (with a beginning, middle, and end) about the theme “these mountains.” Storytellers may interpret the assigned theme however they’d like, and share their stories between noon and 2 p.m.
You do not have to be a professional storyteller to participate or attend. Simply join in and share your favorite mountain stories, or just come to listen to all the stories from all of your neighbors.
At 2 p.m., Changing Lanes will perform in the Community Center.
Outdoor entertainment also will be provided for youngsters, including inflatables; adults can even join in the fun on some if interested.
Also for adults, Stanburn Winery will be on hand, with tastings, sales by the glass and bottle sales.
The family fair also features Meadows of Dan Elementary School, which will host their annual Fish Fry, and Vesta Community Center, which will have their famous hot dogs for sale.
Other tasty treats include Kettlecorn, funnel cakes, deep fried oreos and lemonade. Peaches from local orchards also will be available, as will peach cobbler, offered by Meadows of Dan Baptist Church.
Vendors include Painter Farms, Thirty One, Stained Glass, Cranberry Acre, Local Honey, Jewelry, Debrosa, Mayberry Blooms, Posh, Rada and several others.
