The West Piedmont Health District will provide insect repellent—at no cost—to shoppers at the Village of Martinsville Shopping Center (240 Commonwealth Blvd. W. Martinsville) on Thursday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Health department staff and volunteers will be located in a booth in the parking area between Dunham’s and the old Sears building.
The WPHD also will offer educational information about the importance of preventing mosquito and tick borne diseases.
“We are so excited to expand our insect repellent outreach into the community,” said District Epidemiologist Sharon Ortiz-Garcia. “Using insect repellent is the best way to prevent the transmission of mosquito and tick-borne diseases, and we want to share that message with as many people as possible.”
Community residents unable to visit the booth may pick up repellent by visiting the front desk of any of the three health department locations Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The repellent will also be distributed to clients during clinics.
The repellent is limited to one bottle per person while supplies last.
