Ray Reynolds, left, owner of Rayzor’s Edge Photography, presented Glen Wood with a special present for his 91st birthday on Monday: this collage of Reynolds’ photographs from The Wood Brothers’ return to Martinsville Speedway in April. Reynolds said he focused on Martinsville because he wanted to cover “something the community can see, because a lot of people can’t afford to go to races anymore [since the economic downturn].” Reynolds added that fans were so excited about the Wood Brothers’ return, he could hardly get near the pit to take photos. He also took photos from the stands and the roof.
Wood celebrated his birthday by hosting approximately 150 friends and family members at the Wood Brothers Racing Museum on Monday. Woods said his 91st had been “a nice day” that included a visit from NASCAR legends Donnie and Bobby Allison. For years, Woods has celebrated his birthday by having “a party of old-timers” he said. “It started out with about a dozen of us, all sitting around talking about racing, and it kept getting bigger. Now we have about 125 to 130 coming.” This year marks The Wood Brothers’ 66th year in racing. (Photo by Angela Hill)
