A participant in a recent rappelling class hones his skills during the April 21 – 23 training event held in Patrick and Henry counties.
The Introduction to Technical Rescue, Module 2 class attracted 18 volunteers, one from as far away as Botetourt County, according to Patrick County Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Allen.
Other participants were from Henry County and the cities of Galax and Danville, Allen said, but noted the majority enrolled in the class were from Patrick County.
“These are some of the hardest classes to get” in a particular area, Allen said. “We were pleased to get one in Patrick County.”
Allen said the classes were sponsored by the Virginia Department of Fire Programs, and is designed to prepare participants for a wide variety of possible rescue operations. (Photos contributed by Steve Allen.)
