As it reorganizes in Patrick County, the Republican Committee will hold a mass meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 to elect a chairman, vice chairman, treasurer and secretary, and discuss other issues.
“This will be a true reorganization, sanctioned by the Republican Party of Virginia, which is a branch of the” Republican National Committee (RNC), said Wren Williams, interim chairman.
Williams said all legal and qualified voters of Patrick County may participate. He added that he is interested in determining the reasons younger voters may not be engaged and overcome them.
Those in the millennial generation “are the largest voting-block in the country … I think it’s important to tell them ‘you are an adult and the decisions people make in power to put policy in place’” affects you, said Williams, who is 29.
He is hopeful those aged 18 and up attend the meeting that will be held at the Virginia Motorsports Museum and Hall, which is located in the Stuart site of Patrick Henry Community College, 212 Johnson Street.
Those interested in serving in an office are required to pre-file their intention via a written statement of intent by end of business on Wednesday, Oct. 31 by mail to the Patrick County Republican Committee, P.O. Box 396, Stuart, Virginia 24171.
Nominations for chairman will not be permitted from the floor. Should only one candidate file for Chairman, then the Mass Meeting shall be cancelled and replaced with a regular meeting.
There is no required registration fee to participate in the mass meeting.
