Harold Lee Griggs Jr., 76, of Spring, Texas, and formally of Martinsville, died on Wednesday, August 17, 2016.
He was born in Patrick Springs on December 18, 1939, and was a son of the late Harold Lee Griggs Sr. and Janie Turner Griggs.
He is survived by his wife, Malvina Osborne Griggs; one son, Randall Lee Griggs of Franklin, Tenn.; his sister, Nancy Hudson of Ridgeway; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He served in the U.S. Army during the early years of the Vietnam Conflict, and upon discharge in August 1965 he went to work as a sales manager for the Baltimore, Md.-based Globemaster Tool Company, working out of Martinsville.
He was promoted to the national sales manager in 1971 and the family moved to Baltimore. Over the next seven years, he built Globemaster Tools into a nationally known brand leading to his promotion in 1978 to vice president of sales and operations for a Houston, Texas, company Trophy Products Inc., a subsidiary of Globemaster Tools.
Over the next 25 years, he built Trophy Products into a national leader in its industry and after a 38-year successful career, he retired from Trophy Products in January 2003.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Community Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Thurman officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Community Funeral Home.
