Stuart VFW Post 7800 awarded Grace Helms its Teacher of the Year for 2016-2017.

Her application was forwarded to Virginia VFW District 5 where she was judged the winner at that level. Her application is now with VFW at the Virginia level for consideration.

Judges at Post 7800 said they found Helms’ accomplishments and participation in the community. Helms is the art teacher for both Stuart and Meadows of Dan elementary schools.

“It is obvious that she loves her job and her students very much,” a release from VFW Post 7800 states. “The enthusiasm with which her nomination was promoted by the staff at Stuart Elementary indicates she is an excellent teacher and goes beyond the requirements of her job to motivate and guide her students.

“Congratulations to Mrs. Helms from VFW Post 7800!”
