Homer Neal Keen Sr., age 85, of Stuart, died Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.
He was born in Short Gap, Va., on February 28, 1931, and was a son of the late William David Keen and Mary Cantrell Keen. He was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph David Keen; two brothers, Edward Keen and Albert Keen; three sisters, Ruby Keen Stanley, Virginia Keen Ball and Baby Keen.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the 11th Airborne Division.
Surviving are his wife, Gracie Ellen Boyd Keen of the home; one son, Homer Neal Keen Jr. of Florida; five daughters, Keron Keen Setliff of Henry, Judy Keen Lowe, Kathy Keen Murphy and Patricia Keen Upton, all of Stuart, and Misty Keen Disharoon of Oak Level; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Lillie Keen Cook of Kingsport, Tenn., Georgia Keen of North Carolina and Bonnie Keen Absher of Richlands; and his dog, Snoopy.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Chaplain Jeff Rhea officiating. Burial was in the Keen-Boyd Family Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.
