Seventeen members from the Hardin Reynolds Memorial School Junior Beta Club attended the 24th annual Virginia State Junior Beta Convention held in Hampton on February 12-13. The theme this year was “Beta – As Far As You Can See.” The members competed in Academic and Arts and Crafts competitions.
The students brought home three awards. The club placed second in Trading Pin, designed by Christian Hylton. Carrie Cassell took first place in Service Learning Showcase. Emily Eastridge & Mary Beth Williams brought home first place in Apparel Design.
These students received invitations to the National Junior Beta Convention in Fort Worth, TX, June 19-22.
Other students competed in Academic competitions: Owen Nutter, Josiah Spangler, Glenn Stovall, Riley Hodges, Zachary Letchworth, Adin Geiger – Robotics; Riley Hodges, Josiah Spangler, Zachary Letchworth, Xavier Torres-Seda – Quiz Bowl; Parker Roop – 6th grade Language Arts; Xavier Torres-Seda – 7th grade Math; Josiah Spangler – 7th grade Science; Tara Collins – Creative Writing; and Owen Nutter – 7th grade Social Studies.
The following students also competed in Visual Arts & Crafts: Tara Collins – Black & White Photography; Emily Eastridge – Color Photography; Adin Geiger – Drawing; Kylei Blevins – Fiber Arts; Carrie Cassell – Jewelry; Heather Brim – Mixed Media; Sydney Peer – Painting; Glenn Stovall – Recyclable Art; Karyna Pauley – Sculpture; and Caleb Geiger — Woodworking.
Several students also entered group competitions: Mary Beth Williams & Emily Eastridge – Performing Arts (Duo); Heather Brim, Sydney Peer, & Christian Hylton – Two-Dimensional Design; and Mary Beth Williams, Emily Eastridge, Kylei Blevins, Christian Hylton, Sydney Peer, Heather Brim – Portfolio.
