Eighteen members from the Hardin Reynolds Memorial School Junior Beta Club attended the 21st annual Virginia State Junior Beta Convention held in Williamsburg on February 8-9.
The theme this year was “Beta Above and Beyond.” The members competed in academic and arts and crafts competitions.The students brought home five awards. Connor Campbell placed first in pastels. Alainah Harbour placed second in sculpture. Mia Stowe placed first in fiber arts—quilting. Jalen Hagwood, Caitlyn and Caroline Haynes, and Mia Stowe placed first in Spotlight Your Club with their board being presented by Mia Stowe and Caitlyn Haynes. The students also brought home the third place Visual Arts Sweepstakes Division II award.
These students received invitations to the National Junior Beta Convention in Orlando, Fla., June 25-28.
Students also competed in academic competitions: Colin Campbell, math; Connor Campbell, science; Dillon Mills, language arts; and Payton Stovall in social studies. The Quiz Bowl team consisted of Colin Campbell, Connor Campbell, Ethan Curry and Christian Edwards. Payton Stovall served as the alternate. Kursten Hylton presented the club banner—created by Logan Brim, Kursten, and Jymasia Manns—when club president Payton Errichetti introduced the club to those attending the convention on Wednesday evening.The club T-shirt was designed by Luke Cutchins and Caroline Haynes and was presented by Caroline.Payton Errichetti entered black and white photography, Lauren Murphy competed in woodworking, Karlyn Hall entered handmade jewelry and painting, Columbia Haycraft created a recycled art project, Devyn Lemons entered a pencil sketch, Alainah Harbour entered color photography, Kursten Hylton entered a wreath decorated to show the theme and Jadyn Pruitt competed in digital photography.The students were accompanied by their three sponsors, Stephanie Campbell, Jennifer Hairston and Sherry Hartman.
