Ilda Joyce Mitchell, 93, of Bassett, died Sunday, October 2, 2016, at King’s Grant in Martinsville.
She was born in Patrick County on July 29, 1923, and was a daughter of the late Louie Washington and Susie Tuggle Joyce. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Duell W. Mitchell in 1999; an infant son; sisters, Edith Wray and Racine Craig; and brothers, Curtis, Dolphus, and Ronnie Joyce.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bassett and the Discovery Bible Class.
Surviving are four children, Michael J. Mitchell of Las Vegas, Nev., David Leon Mitchell of Craigsville.; two daughters, Carol Adams and Betty Jo Ray, both of Bassett; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; her sisters, Geneva Dillion, Nellie Terry, Bea Adams, Peggy Merriman; and brothers, Bobby Joyce and Tommy Joyce, all of Bassett.
The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Bassett at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) with Dr. Lew Bennett officiating. Burial will be held at Old Center Primitive Baptist Church.
