Inaugural Scarecrow Contest underway

Thousands of tourists drive through Patrick County each October to visit the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy the fall colors and available many amenities.

What better way to say ‘thanks’ this year, while incorporating social distancing, than with a scarecrow contest.

Visitors can see the scarecrows from their vehicles and choose their favorite display, according to the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce, which is promoting its Inaugural Scarecrow Contest.  Businesses, churches, organizations, and individuals have been busy creating their scarecrow exhibit.

PC Rocket Robotics, Stuart

There are approximately 40 themed scarecrow displays already placed throughout the county, and the chamber anticipates more will be added to the exhibit.

Visitors and residents alike are encouraged to vote for your favorite scarecrow.  The chamber is promoting each display with photos through several outlets to help facilitate voting, including on its Facebook page, an online gallery “Official Entries,” WHEO radio advertising and an ad in “The Enterprise.”

Votes will be accepted through October 31.

Various prizes will be awarded to the best scarecrow exhibit and to the patrons who visit the most scarecrows.

For more information and an opportunity to cast your vote for your favorite scarecrow display, visit www.patrickchamber.com.
