Irene Thomas Bowman Newman, 86, died Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Danville.
She had been a resident of Roman Eagle since 2007. She was born May 19, 1930, in Cana to the late Alfred Lee Thomas and the late Zelma Tobler Thomas. She was also predeceased in death by her husbands, Garner Franklin Bowman and William H. Newman; and her son, Donald Franklin Bowman.
She is survived by her sister, June Bowman of Ararat; her brother, Jessie Thomas of Tocoma, Wash.; and her brother, Lewis Thomas of Stuart; her children, Kenneth Lee Bowman of Dry Fork, Anita Story of Chester, Janeen Frazier of Dobson, N.C., Albert Blankenship Jr. of New Kent; and daughter-in-law, Marian Bowman of Marion; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Saturday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, N.C. Burial was in Mount Bethel Moravian Church cemetery in Cana.
