James Elisha Harris Jr. (J.E.), age 79 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021. He was born in Patrick County on September 4, 1941.
Preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Pendleton Harris and his parents, James E Harris and Clynda Marie Bowling Harris. In addition, his grandparents, Hiram Peter “Byrd” Harris and Mary Boyd Harris, Wilton Bowling and Minnie Lou McAlexander Bowling Webb. Father-in-law and mother-in-law: Delmar and Elsie Pendleton. Brother-in-laws, John Pendleton, Jim Pendleton, and Boyd (Bob) Kidd. Sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Vera Pendleton Harbour and Wesley Harbour
Survived by his daughter, Lisa Harris-Chavez and son-in-law, Steve of Sacramento CA. Surviving siblings Vernon (Linda) Harris, Bonne (Lonnie) Dillon, Jason (Kim) Harris all of Stuart VA and Wanda (Jeff) Gibson of Cary NC. He is also survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Elva Pendleton, Larmie (Arnold) Hylton, Judy Kidd, Gary Pendleton, Gerald Pendleton, Dan (Sherry) Pendleton, Ron Pendleton, and Jean Pendleton. As well as many nieces and nephews.
J.E. was in the wood products business for over 50 years. He started as a sawmiller with his father and brothers. In 1990, J.E. and his brother Vernon established Hilltop Pallet. Even after J.E.’s official retirement as co-owner, he enjoyed working for Hilltop as a part-time truck driver. His CB handle was known to locals as “Good Time Charlie”. J.E. loved the older generation of county music often singing and playing Merle Haggard songs on his guitar.
J.E. served in the National Guard and was a member of the American Legion. He was a devout member of Jack’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be private, but friends are welcome at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart on Monday, February 15, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to pay their respects.
