James “Jimmy” Mason Spence, 77, of Patrick Springs, died on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
He was born on March 1, 1939 in Bluefield, W.Va. and was a son of the late Edgar Spence and the late Gladys Williams Spence. He was also preceded in death by eight brothers.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Betty Jean Spence; one daughter, Deborah Cassell; sons, James Ernest Spence and Ricky Lee Spence; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; sisters, Virginia Brown, Gracie Sigmon, Dorothy Spence, Lillian Higgins and Josie Bowman and brothers, Raymond Spence and Bobby Spence.
The funeral was held Sunday at Stanleytown Amazing Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Hodges officiating. Burial was in Patrick Memorial Gardens in Stuart.
