obit Gammons JesseJesse Blaine Gammons, age 88, of Sandy Level died Monday, July 18, 2016, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born May 17, 1928, in Patrick County, he was a son of the late Jesse Gammons and Susie Goings Gammons. He was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa Dawn Gammons and three brothers, David Gammons, Frank Gammons, and William Gammons.
He was a 50-year member of Laborers’ International Union of North America and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a retired construction worker and spent part of his time working on building Smith Mountain Dam. He enjoyed making birdhouses, gardening, and walking.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Cassidy Gammons of the residence; two brothers, Herbert Gammons of Ararat, and Winfield Gammons and wife Elaine of Stuart; and one sister, Ruby Layman and husband Paul of Patrick Springs.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Darrell Myers. Burial will follow at Liberty Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home in Gretna and will also be at the residence at other times.
The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to breast cancer research, in memory of Lisa Dawn Gammons, and mailed to: METAvivor 1783 Forest Dr. #184, Annapolis, Md., 21401, or online at secure.metavivor.org.
