Joseph Linwood “Bill” Williams, age 84, of Patrick Springs, died Thursday, April 28, 2016 at his home.
He was born in Patrick County on December 31, 1931 and was a son of the late Lee and Maggie Purdy Williams. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Lawson Williams; two brothers, Frank and Daniel Williams; and three sisters, Mae Shelton, Dessie Martin and Pearl Williams.
He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, had served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and was a past member of VFW Post 4637.
He had played music since he was 12 years old and had been a member of the Bull Mountain Boys, the Cockram Family and the Pleasant View Singers. He had worked for VDOT and Fieldcrest Mills and retired from Williams Logging where he was the owner.
Surviving are his wife, Faye Cockram Williams of the home; one stepdaughter, Cindy Robertson and husband Kenny of Patrick Springs; two sisters-in-law, Gretchen Cockram of Patrick Springs and Hallie Brown of Martinsville; several nieces and nephews; and two special canine friends, Tippy and Lady.
Funeral services were held Monday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Rick Anderson and Pastor Danny Gilley officiating. Burial was in the Williams-Purdy Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.
