Celebrations were underway at press time in various locations throughout Patrick County.
The Bluegrass and Old Time Music Competition in Vesta, and the Old Fashioned July 4th celebration at DeHart Park in Stuart are among the longest running events.
The Vesta celebration, held annually at the Community Center, had something for everyone, from competitions in various musical categories, including the banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, bands, vocals and flat-footing, games for youngsters, and a Quilt Show by the Mountain Top Quilters.
The event in Stuart offered various activities throughout the day, a traditional blend of family friendly offerings mixed with new additions, like the Red, White, and Blue Children’s Carnival.
The celebration in Stuart culminated in the traditional fireworks.
