The Cougars got a 16-0 win in three innings over Martinsville at home on April 18.
Camden Nowlin took the win on the mound pitching one inning, striking out one, walking none, and allowing no hits.
Gilbert Hubbard pitched two innings striking out five, walking one, and allowing one hit. Nick Tarpley led the Cougars at the plate with one run, two hits, a triple, and four RBIs. Garrett Leftwich had three runs and two RBIs. Grayson Howell scored three runs and one RBI. Nowlin, Hubbard, and Hunter Strole all added two runs each. Troy Cox had two hits, one run, and two RBIs. Austin Rorrer added one run for Patrick County.
“Good win for our group. Everyone contributed. Nick Tarpley had a real nice game at the plate, 2-2, a triple and four RBI’s. Good week for the kids. We are starting to play complete games,” said Coach Donny Rakes.
The team also took a 5-1 win over Tunstall on the road on April 16. Leftwich is credited with the win pitching 6 1/3 innings, striking out eight, walking six, and allowing five hits. Carson Merriman came in as relief for the remainder of the 7th to finish off the game. Strole led the Cougars with two hits. Nowlin had one hit, Merriman had a hit and two RBIs, Grayson Howell had a hit and an RBI, and Nash Thompson had one hit and one RBI for Patrick County.
“Super win for our kids. The boys have worked hard and finally put seven total innings together. Super win for us. Tunstall is the measuring rod for baseball in our district. Big shout out to Garrett Leftwich. He pitched his guts out in a great outing. We threw strikes, played defense, and put the ball in play- baseball the way it should be,” Rakes said.
The Cougars are now 5-6 on the season.
