The Patrick County High School junior varsity football team faced a formidable opponent last Thursday when they hosted the George Washington of Danville JV Eagles. The Cougars lost 62-14.
“The Eagles were a team of great size, speed and depth, and opened up the game by scoring 30 unanswered points,” said Coach Tony Mosley.
Late in the second quarter, PC was able to put together a sustained drive of 65 yards. Will Sprowl threw a 25-yard pass that connected with Jaylan Linster for a touchdown and Martin Morse added the extra point. GW responded by returning the kickoff for a touchdown ending the half with a score of 38-7.
“During the second half, we were able to score late in the fourth quarter off a 15 yard scramble by Will Sprowl,” Mosley said.
“Overall, I think our offensive line did a good job of creating space for Carson Merriman to run, and they also did a great job of protecting our quarterback,” he said. “I’m proud of our efforts—considering we were without a few starters on defense and offense,” Mosley added.
“I think the open week is coming at the perfect time for us to get healthy and finish the season off strong,” he added.
