Kate Noonkester Legard of Stuart, formerly of Bassett, died at Pioneer Hospital in Stuart on Wednesday, September 7, 2016.
She was born December 17, 1932, to Reggie and Arcie Noonkester in Grayson County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter T. Legard; brothers, Dr. J. Ralph Noonkester and Clarence Noonkester; and a sister, Judith Noonkester.
She grew up in Marion and was a graduate of Marion College. Relocating to Bassett, she was employed by Stanley Furniture for 29 years and retired as executive secretary. She was a faithful member of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, director and deacon.
Surviving are one sister, Loretta Crismond of Bedford; daughters, Susan Maxey of Walnut Cove, N.C., and Kathy Legard-Lavinder of Bassett; and two grandchildren.
Special thanks go to the staff at Landmark Assisted Living Center for all of their gracious care.
Graveside services were held Friday at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Marion. A memorial service was held Sunday at Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church in Bassett with the Rev. George Hearn presiding.
Memorial donations be made to Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church, P.O. Box 507, Bassett, Va., 24055.
Arrangements were by Seaver-Brown Funeral Service and Crematory. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com.
