La Leche League of Patrick County’s second annual Live, Love, Latch event took place on Saturday, August 6. The event was in celebration of National Breastfeeding Month and World Breastfeeding week and in coordination with La Leche League USA and other La Leche League groups across the country.
The mission of the event was to raise awareness for the importance of breastfeeding in the parent-child relationship and the family as well as to increase support for breastfeeding in families, in the community, and with care providers.
The 2016 event had over 50 attendees including volunteers, presenters, children, parents and other family members. Attendees hailed from Patrick and Henry County as well as North Carolina and Colorado. Fourteen women and children were counted as participating in the Global Big Latch On, which took place at 10:30 a.m. local time in locations around the world.
In addition to the Global Big Latch On, attendees participated in a baby-wearing demonstration coordinated by the Foothills Babywearing Group and a nutrition talk presented by Vickie Wasoski through Patrick County 4-H Extension.
La Leche League of Patrick County hosts free monthly meetings the fourth Tuesday of each month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Patrick County Branch Library in Stuart. Saturday morning meetings are held at various locations throughout the year.
