It was an eventful night for the Patrick County High School Lady Cougar volleyball team last Monday when the Carroll County Cavaliers came to the Cougar gym for the match. The Lady Cougars won in three of four sets, and senior Abby Hutchens scored her 1,000th kill of her high school volleyball career. (See related story.)
The match scores were 25-21, 24-26, 25-16 and 25-18.
Abby Hutchens totaled 22 kills for the night; her 1,000th kill came in the third set. Melanie Roberson had 28 assists, four aces and four kills. Sydney Biggs had eight kills and eight aces.
In junior varsity action, the JV Lady Cougars won in two sets–25-23 and 25-19. Sara Caine had five kills, Ashlee Mesot had eight assists, and Jenny Turner had seven digs.
Tuesday, the Lady Cougars lost to a powerful Franklin County team in three sets, 25-18, 25-17 and 25-17.
Abby Hutchens had eight kills while Melanie Roberson had 19 assists. AK Scruggs had 15 digs.
The JV Lady Cougars lost in three sets–25-20, 12-25, and 8-15.
Sara Caine had five kills, Madison Wright had four kills and Ashlee Mesot contributed seven assists. Caroline Vernon had eight digs, and Taylor Vernon scored four aces.
Thursday saw the Lady Cougars sweep the Lady Bulldogs of Martinsville in three straight sets, improving their record to 11-2 on the season.
The scores were 25-8, 25-3 and 25-8.
Abby Hutchens had 12 kills and Melanie Roberson had 17 assists and four aces. Sydney Biggs had three kills and 11 aces.
The Junior Varsity Lady Cougars won in two sets–26-16 and 25-8.
Erin Keith scored six aces. Taylor Vernon picked up three kills, and Ashlee Mesot had four assists.
The Lady Cougars travel to Tunstall Tuesday night and host Bassett Thursday night at 7 p.m.
