In the third inning, PC got more runs on the scoreboard when Moorefield singled and Melanie Roberson doubled to drive in Moorefield. Watts was hit by a pitch and Abby Hutchens walked to load the bases for Zoe Hutchens. She got a three-RBI double with a total of four runners crossing home plate in the third inning.
Melissa Pendleton led off with a walk in the fourth inning and later scored on Moorefield’s RBI double. Roberson singled; Moorefield and Roberson later scored on pass balls. Then Abby Hutchens singled and scored off a base hit from Moorefield for four more runs in the fourth inning.
In the fifth inning, Morgan Biggs led off with a double which was followed by a single from Moorefield. Biggs scored on an RBI from Roberson.
All three pitchers threw in Tuesday’s game; Largen went four innings with seven strikeouts, no walks, no runs, and allowed two hits. Josie Pendleton came in and pitched the fifth and sixth innings. She had one strikeout, allowed two hits, and one run. Hannah Beasley threw the last inning and allowed no hits with no walks.

“This was a good win for us tonight,” said Coach Roger Wilson. “We had several girls with some good, hard hits tonight that hadn’t been hitting lately, so it was good to see them come around. All three pitchers did great tonight.”
Thursday’s game at Halifax was a “tough, rainy game.” The Lady Cougars lost 2-0.
“We played well, but we just didn’t catch any breaks in the game,” Wilson said.
Zoe Hutchens and Sydney Biggs led the Lady Cougars at the plate with each going 2-3. Savannah Moorefield, Melanie Roberson and Hanna Hylton each singled to total seven hits for the Lady Cougars.
Cassidy Largen only allowed three hits on the night. She struck out five and walked two.
“This is softball. They had the timely hits to score a couple runs,” Wilson said. “We out-hit them, played great defense but didn’t win. I couldn’t have asked more from the girls,” he added.
This week is a busy one for the Lady Cougars. They play three games in a row: Monday at Blacksburg, Tuesday at home against Franklin County and Wednesday at home against Blacksburg for Senior night.
The Lady Cougar record is record: 14-2.
