The Lady Cougars travelled to North Stokes on December 21, winning a tough matchup, 44-33.
Abigail Epperson led the Cougars with 10 points, five rebounds, three steals, and one assist.
Missy Hazard had nine points, five rebounds, two steals, and four assists.
Allanah Mitchell had nine points, two rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
Aniya Penn added eight points, eight rebounds, three steals, and one assist for the Patrick County team.
“It was a tough win for our kids,” said Head Coach Donny Rakes. “I think the environment got to us early in the game. We weren’t very focused. Quite frankly, we did not come out ready to go, and that’s on me.”
But “we played excellent defense in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and created our offense out of it. That was the difference,” Rakes said. “Our young team is really finding out what it takes to play at the varsity level, and we are struggling somewhat with the consistency it takes. I am, however, proud of the small steps we are taking.”
