Patrick County had a second half comeback to get a big 58-53 win over Glenvar in the first round of regional play on Feb. 24.
According to Coach Donnie Rakes, “It was a big win for our group. We had a really strong second half by the kids. We were thoroughly outplayed in the first half. The kids really brought it defensively in the second half. Can’t say enough about the defensive effort that Gracelyn Hubbard had on Olivia Harris in the second half, holding her to four points. I thought that was the key to win.
“Offensively we just kept pounding it inside to CC (Sierra) Hubbard and Logan McGhee, and they delivered. Big shooting night for Missy Hazard. At times she plays like a freshman, then at others, like the second half tonight, she buried five big time threes, and all five were at crunch time. She has a bright future. Really good to have CC back. She literally willed us to a win inside. We bounced back when we were down. I’m proud of my kids,” he said.
