Patrick County hit the court in their typical aggressive style, but the size and athleticism of the Lady Bulldogs put a damper the Lady Cougar attack. Martinsville took a 20-11 lead after the first quarter.
The Lady Bulldog run-and-shoot offense tied in with their powerful defense held Patrick County to only five points in the second quarter while they scored 28.
Both teams added 15 points to the scoreboard in the third.
The Lady Cougar defense cut some of the Lady Bulldog offense in the second half, but the lead they had accumulated in the first half just could not be overcome.
“Obviously, we can look at th
e score and see that we didn’t have a good night,” said Coach Mike Hedrick. .It’s our job to get back to work so that we can continue to get better; we take pride in playing at home, and us losing the way we did will be extra motivation for us moving forward,” he said.
Autumn Hubbard led Lady Cougar scorers with 12 points. Hannah Roberson scored nine and Z Cole added six.
The Lady Cougars travel to Bassett tonight (Wednesday). Their record is 7-5 on the season.
