Indian summer is a period of unseasonably warm, dry weather that sometimes occurs in autumn in the Northern Hemisphere (according to Wikipedia). Residents have been taking advantage of the warm weather by enjoying activities in the courtyard which have included eating ice cream sandwiches and relaxing in the sun.
Local artists joined Ursula Allen for the Community Art Class on October 13. Residents created pictures using paint, leaves, and flowers. After the process residents had beautiful and unusual 3D pictures to display in their rooms.
Sunday, October 16, residents, family, and guests were served chocolate cake and orange punch. Everyone loved this early Halloween treat.
Students from the Patrick County High School senior cosmetology class provided manicures for the residents on the morning of October 18. In the afternoon, residents went on a bus trip to view the changing leaves. Those residents remaining home watched the movie, “Full Out,” while others crafted fall necklaces. After dinner they welcomed local artist Sue Nester.
October 19, residents welcomed youth from Abiding Grace Church for game night. They always look forward to being with the children. This month they assisted the residents in creating Halloween masks and pumpkins.
Residents shopped locally on the bus trip Thursday morning, October 20. In the afternoon, new residents were welcomed with the Newcomers’ Social. They were treated with ice cream and music.
Jim Purcell, local artist, led a sing-along Friday morning, October 21. October birthdays were celebrated in the afternoon with a birthday party in the dining room. Entertainment was provided by Vernon Harris and Shelly Roberts and resident birthday gifts were donated by Sycamore Baptist Church. After dinner, residents relaxed to the music of the Chords of Faith.
Residents had a great time at the Apple Dumpling Festival on Saturday, October 22. Resident Beverly Philpott, met and talked with a famous cartoon character, Scooby Do. The residents also enjoyed the beautiful sunny day and visiting all the vendors.
The Landmark Center celebrated National Massage Therapy Awareness Week October 23-29. Charlene Crumley, ADN, CMT, provided free sample chair massage for staff of Landmark and Blue Ridge Therapy Connection. Residents ate breakfast in Stuart on October 25 and attended a coloring class at the local library on October 27.
