Memory Care residents joined the Assisted Living residents for entertainment by Two Old and Two Young on Thursday, July 6, Mike Hall on July 7, and crafts with TWO Hands on Saturday morning, July 8. They also traveled to Mabry’s Mill, located on the Blue Ridge Parkway, for lunch July 12 and to Ridgeway on July 19 for pizza. Sunday, July 16, was National Sugar Cookie Day and residents enjoyed cookies in the game room. Later they welcomed members of Jack’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church for singing and preaching.The monthly Operation Home Front meeting was held on July 11 at The Landmark Center. Those in attendance painted red, white, and blue pictures which included the American flag. If you served in the U.S. Armed Forces you are invited to attend these meeting to connect, recognize, and support our local heroes. The meetings are usually held on the first Tuesday of each month from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Landmark living room.

Beth Ford, historical services assistant from Reynolds Homestead, led the monthly Art Fusion Discussion group, also on July 11. Residents were shown local paintings of the outdoors, lakes, and mountains. They shared memories and stories about places from their past and also talked about West Virginia and its mountains. The residents always have a lot of fun in this program.
After dinner, residents were led in worship by singers from Mountain View Mountain View United Methodist Church.Each Wednesday afternoon, volunteer, Helen Cowley joins the residents for the Cooking Club. On July 12 we made a Strawberry Upside Down Cake which was delicious. Residents, staff, family guests, and Helen worked together to prepare the cake and topping to be baked. As the cake baked the delicious aroma of strawberries filled the room and surrounding hallways.
As we “patiently” waited to taste our creation residents reminisced about family and meal time at home. What a blessing to share memories with each other. On July 19 the Cooking Club grilled corn and pineapple.Bus trips have included pizza for lunch in Mount Airy, N.C., July 11, breakfast at a local restaurant on July 13, local shopping July 18, and an adult coloring class at the local library July 20.Local artists led the residents in the Community Art class on July 13. Residents were assisted in creating beautiful sun-catchers using items found in our homes. They now have them hanging in the windows of their rooms and in the arts and crafts room. In the afternoon, residents were entertained by the group Collinsville Country.Residents took part in a spelling bee on Friday morning, July 14. Everyone in attendance received Landmark Bucks to spend in the country store on Monday. After dinner, residents relaxed to beautiful music by Roger Wells. Members from Harvest Worship Center joined the residents on Saturday, July 15, for a time of singing, worship, and prayer. Residents and guests were treated to ice cream sundaes on Sundae Sunday.Throughout Patrick County people are savoring fresh tomatoes from the garden. Landmark residents were treated to a tomato sandwich picnic in the courtyard July 18. There is nothing quite like a tomato sandwich and friends while on a picnic. Local singer Sue Nester entertained the residents after dinner with gospel music.The Alzheimer’s Support Group will meet at The Landmark Center on July 25 at noon.
