Guests from the community joined the Landmark staff and residents Thursday evening, May 25, for the grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting of the new Memory Care Neighborhood.
Thank you to everyone who braved the rain and chilly temperatures to join us for this very special event.The activity staff at The Landmark Center welcomes new team member Laura Peltier. Laura is experienced in both assisted living and memory care and will be a great asset to the Landmark community. Over the Memorial Day weekend residents welcomed James Setliff on Saturday, enjoyed an ice cream social in the courtyard on Sunday, and ate watermelon during the Memorial Day celebration Monday afternoon.Tuesday, May 30, residents traveled to Infinity Akers Petting Ranch in Ridgeway and experienced a “day out’ they will not soon forget. Many of the residents fed baby goats using a baby bottle, made friends with a llama, and became snake handlers. They also enjoyed a picnic lunch prepared by the Landmark dietary staff.Residents went shopping locally on the morning of June 1. In the afternoon, community guests joined them for the bimonthly Community Rook Tournament. Winners were Willie Mae Ray, Elizabeth Goard, and Jesse Vernon; each winner received a prize.
This tournament is coordinated by volunteers Jim and Ellen Saunders and Daniel Quesenberry, assistant activity director. Refreshments were provided by the Landmark dietary staff. After dinner, residents were entertained by singer Charles Bowman. Charles sings a wide variety of tunes which includes gospel and classic country. His music always puts huge smiles on the resident’s faces.
Doughnuts and coffee were served to the residents Friday morning, June 2, in celebration of National Doughnut Day. Saturday, June 3, residents welcomed Pastor Dave Boarman and on Sunday afternoon residents and guests were served cheesecake and punch in celebration of Cheese Day.The Over the Hill Gang and local square dancers performed for the Landmark residents Monday evening, June 5. This is a favorite activity at the Landmark Center; residents always look forward to watching and joining the dancers on the floor.The Operation Homefront meeting was held at The Landmark Center on June 6. If you served in the Armed Forces you are invited to join the Landmark residents for support and conversation. The next meeting will be on July 11, 9 to 10 a.m. in the Landmark living room. In the afternoon, residents traveled to Ridgeway for ice cream and after dinner they were treated to music by the F.A.R.M. T.E.A.M. This group performs with an element of western swing and traditional folk music. You can’t keep from tapping your feet and clapping your hands.Gentlemen from the Landmark Center and Blue Ridge Therapy Connection will be honored with a Father’s Day cookout in the Landmark Courtyard on Friday, June 16. We would like to wish all dads a very happy Father’s Day.The community is invited to the second annual “Splish Splash, we are having a bash” happening between The Landmark Center and Blue Ridge Therapy Connection on Saturday night, June 17. The fun will be from 6 to 10 p.m. with free admission to the activities. Come and enjoy the Bounce House Extreme, Lava Twist, and the Slip N’ Slide.
After all the fun in the sun, sit back and relax while watching the Movie “Trolls” which will begin at 9 p.m. Snacks and refreshments will be available. This event is a fund-raiser for the Patrick County Alzheimer’s Association.
