Lela Jane Cummings Wright, age 99, of Independence, Va., passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2016.
She was born in Jonesville, N.C., to the late Pleas Monroe Cummings and Etta Blackburn Cummings. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude Allen Wright; three brothers, Raymond Cummings, Harvey Cummings, and Harold Cummings; and a sister, Daphne Cummings.
Lela had been a dedicated member of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, known as the D.A.R. She loved flowers of all types and varieties.
Surviving are one brother, Gayle E. Cummings (Nancy) of Harrisburg, Pa.; brothers-in-law; Grayson Wright (Joyce) of Blacksburg and Randolph Wright of Galax; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, June 22, 2016) at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor Gloria Rhudy officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
