Ms. Leonia Handy Hall Goad, age 84 of Patrick Springs, Virginia went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She was born in Patrick County on January 19, 1940, to the late Samuel Anderson “Sam” Handy and Almira Elizabeth “Lizzie” Boyd Handy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two children, Tina Renee Goad-Tatum and Marion “Allen” Goad; four sisters, Virginia Cockram, Frances Smith, Cassie Mae Cockram and Ruby Jean Handy; seven brothers, Cecil, Arnold, Ralph, Lee, Troy, Jim, and James E. Handy. Leonia was a faithful member of Mary Horner Walker Memorial Presbyterian Church and loved her church family. She enjoyed quilting and was known for her famous pumpkin rolls. She will be remembered for her feistiness, strong faith, and commitment to her family. To her granddaughters she was the best grandmother in the world and their best friend.
Left to cherish the memories of Leonia are her two adoring granddaughters, Patricia Renee Ciaffone and husband, Gabriel of Salem, and Leanna Marie Johanknecht and husband, Joe of Patrick Springs; Nathaniel Thomas Ciaffone, Leona Renee Ciaffone, Jayden Johanknecht and Baby Boy Johanknecht; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service for Ms. Goad will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Mary Horner Walker Memorial Presbyterian Church with Dr. Denny Casey officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church on Sunday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mary Horner Walker Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund care of Cleo George at 7148 Ararat Highway, Ararat, Virginia 24053.
