The following request has been received by the Patrick County Genealogy Society.
This letter is sent in an effort to find information on my Patrick County ancestors. My grandfather, Robert Lincoln Marshall, was the grandson of John and Araminta Boyd Marshall. The 1870 census shows them as being in dwelling 368 Dan River Township and the post office was Ararat. I know that they are buried in the Golding Cemetery in Mount Airy, N.C.
That same census shows William and Lucy Marshall in dwelling 367. I would like to find out if that William Marshall is John Marshall’s father or maybe another relative. I am almost certain that Lucy was his second marriage and Charlotte Willis was William’s first wife and John’s mother. I would like to know where William and Charlotte are buried if they are my ancestors.
John and Araminta lived in Hillsville for a few years and then moved to Mount Airy. My grandfather and grandmother moved to the Sandhills where they farmed. More information is on Ancestry.com under “Peggy-ann-65” for anyone that is interested.

David Sheley notes: I have already done some research and believe all of these named people, while residing in Patrick County were married elsewhere (Carroll County or perhaps Surry County N.C.)
A marriage license of this period should list the parents of the bride and groom which would prove John’s parentage. I am hoping some of our readers could be of further help to Ms. Morris.
This genealogy notice is free in cooperation with The Enterprise since August 2000. We offer a limited research charging only for copies and postage. Please consider honoring your ancestors by researching and then joining the NSDAR or NSSAR which will become a great legacy for your descendants. Now is a great time to do this because so much information is on the internet and genealogy websites. The LDS Church regularly advertises their assistance.
If you are fortunate enough to have Patrick County ancestors our historic Court House has original documents dating back to 1791 for marriages, deeds, wills and estate inventories. The Clerk of the Court and all of the Deputy Clerks are friendly, knowledgeable and most helpful. It is a pleasure to work with them.
