Dear Readers,
My name is Justin Santopietro, and I am running for the Democratic nomination for Congress, here in Virginia’s 9th district. I am the only candidate (in either party) who is actually from Southwest Virginia, and I am an avid outdoorsman, boater, and fisherman. I also have extensive career and educational experience in the Washington, DC swamp. I received both of my degrees in government affairs, and I have worked in the US Senate, at a new agency called the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and at both public and private interest groups in our nation’s capital. Since I’ve seen how that broken system operates from the inside-out, I’ll be the most equipped to take that system on, and beat it.
Due to my experience, I am well versed in the top policy issues of the day, and my platform includes a detailed plan to fix our broken healthcare system by expanding Medicare. My plan would take the existing Medicare system, which works pretty well for seniors, and expand it to veterans, Medicaid recipients, and create a public buy-in option for the general public.
I also support increasing Social Security benefits for low-income seniors, and cutting payroll and income taxes at the lower end, since these taxes hit working people the hardest
If I’m fortunate enough to be your representative, I will work hard to get more funding back to southwest Virginia, especially so we can run fiber-optic internet wires to every city, town, and holler. To fix our failing schools, I’m proposing that the federal government partner directly with local school districts. I’m proposing a $3,000 per student, per year grant from the US government to school districts, so these districts can rebuild old schools, pay teachers more, and integrate modern technology into the school day.
As a young man and a born-and-raised Southwest Virginian, I will bring new blood and a fresh perspective into an old, deadlocked, corrupt Congress which is not serving the needs of the people. Therefore, I respectfully ask voters in the ninth district to vote for me in the Democratic primary election on Tuesday, June 12.
