I would like to offer a letter of appreciation to a group in Patrick County that is doing an outstanding job of helping pets and their owners who find themselves in need. This organization is the Blue Ridge Animal Welfare League (BRAWL] and is the result of a small but mighty group of hardworking volunteers.
BRAWL works hand in hand with the Patrick County Food Bank to distribute free pet food to people in need on a monthly basis.
In addition, they help to connect people with low cost spay and neuter services for their pet. They also are involved in aiding with Trap Neuter Release program to help control the feral cat colonies in the county.
BRAWL also promotes the adoption of homeless pets at the Patrick County Animal Shelter by providing food and treats and showing videos of adoptable dogs.
They have also sponsored a fee rabies clinic and supplied a number of warm dog houses to needy families.
If you would like to volunteer, make a donation, or just learn more about the organization you can find their Facebook page at Blue Ridge Animal Welfare League or check out their informative website at www.blueridgeawl.org.
With the cost of animal care rising right along with everything else it is comforting to know that BRAWL is there as a safety net when people and pets find themselves in need.
