The Martinsville-Henry County Alliance for Excellence held its 20th annual awards ceremony at Patrick Henry Community College on Sunday, June 5. During the ceremony, over 50 area high school and college students were recognized for their academic achievements and community engagement.
The Alliance for Excellence, which has been active for over 30 years, aims to increase enrollment, retention, graduation, and transfer rates throughout minority populations.
The following academic awards were presented to local minority students with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher at PHCC or area high schools.
From Patrick County High School: Erica Hughes of Ararat and Kori Tarpley of Stuart.
Chelsea Hatcher of Stuart received the Emmadean Norris Commander Leadership Award. The memorial awards were given to honor students who have contributed significantly to their communities through service and engagement.
