Mrs. Mae Hopkins Pace, age 93 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at The Landmark Center in Stuart. She was born in Patrick County on December 13, 1925 to the late Joseph and Maude Cochran Hopkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John Thomas Pace; two sisters, Lora Griffith, Marie Edwards; and three brothers, Lloyd Hopkins, Hoy Hopkins, and Lloyd Soyars. Mae was a member of Creasey’s Chapel United Methodist Church and had retired from the Patrick County School Board where she was the clerk of the school board. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Terresa Pace of Christiansburg; one daughter, Denise Pace Kelly and fiancé, Kenny Diachenko of Lewisville, NC; six grandchildren, Shauna Spanos and husband, Stephen, Sarah Altizer and husband, Matt, Lindsay Pace, Zachary Pace, Ian Kelly, Sean Kelly; eight great grandchildren, Tyler Cook, Hallie Spanos, Lilli Altizer, Whitney Spanos, Sophie Akers, Annie James Spanos, Reese Victoria Altizer, Jack Akers; two sisters, Dorothy Tatum of Stuart, Anita Cox of Stuart; two brothers and a sister-in-law, George Hopkins of Stuart, Clint and Nancy Hopkins of Roanoke; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral was on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at noon at Creasey’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Pastor Tammy Franklin and Rev. Jim Churchwell officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.
