A Stuart man was arrested around 11 p.m. Thursday in connection with an alleged larceny at a local motel, according to a release from the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office.
Stewart Wayne Copley, 53 of 210 Patrick Avenue, was charged with grand larceny in connection with the Dec. 7 incident.
At the time, Patrick investigators responded to the Virginian Motel in Stuart, to investigate the death of Roshn “Ross” Patel, who owned the motel. It was later determined that Patel died of medical complications.
During the investigation, Patel’s wife reported that she could not find the bank bag Patel used as a wallet.
Investigators reviewed the surveillance system cameras and saw that before they arrived on scene, a man had entered the room where Patel was and left with what appeared to be the bank bag, the release stated.
investigators were told by Patel’s wife that the bank bag contained jewelry and an undisclosed amount of cash, the release stated.
