A Patrick Springs man was arrested following an alleged vehicle pursuit that occurred early Thursday, June 4, according to Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith.
Barry Watson Shough, 52, of 326 Dogwood Road, was charged with possession of a firearm by a violent felon, and felony eluding a law enforcement officer in connection with the incident.
The incident began at 12:06 a.m., when Patrick County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dustin Foley responded to a call of shots fired from a vehicle on Tudors Orchard Road, Smith said.
During the investigation, Foley conducted a traffic stop on a 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck.
Approaching the vehicle and making initial contact with the driver, Foley alleged he observed a handgun partially concealed inside of the truck near the driver.
When Foley began to inquire about the handgun, the driver allegedly sped off and a pursuit ensued. Foley pursued the vehicle for approximately seven miles at speeds that exceeding 80 miles per hour. The pursuit ended when the vehicle eventually went off road near Dobyns Church Road.
Then, Foley boxed in the suspect vehicle and took the driver into custody. Foley also recovered and seized a firearm, according to Smith.
Smith said Shough is being held without bail in the Patrick County Jail.
