A Patrick County man was sentenced to a total of 41 years in prison in a case tried in Patrick County Circuit Court in June, but was ordered to serve only eight months of the total sentence.
Michael Timothy Puckett of Ararat was convicted of one count of possession of a sawed-off shotgun and seven counts of possession of explosives, according to a report from Clerk of Court Susan Gasperini.
Puckett was sentenced to five years in prison on each of those counts, or 40 years, with all time conditionally suspended except one month of each sentence, or eight years to serve.
Puckett was also convicted of altering a serial number and sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended.
The following cases were also tried during June:
• Felecia Williams Schandel of Fieldale, charged with identity theft, nolle prossed on motion of commonwealth’s attorney; convicted of identity theft, sentenced to 12 months in jail with all time suspended except 10 days, assessed $100 fine, costs and restitution; convicted of four counts of identity theft, sentenced to 12 months in jail on each count, suspended, assessed $100 fine, costs and restitution; convicted of five counts of identity theft, sentenced to 12 months in jail on each count, suspended, fined $100, suspended, assessed costs and restitution.
• Hansel Eugene Turner, Woolwine, convicted of malicious wounding, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except four months, assessed costs.
• William David Fain, Patrick Springs, convicted of possession of a controlled substance, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except 1-1/2 years, assessed costs and restitution; convicted of grand larceny, sentenced to five years in prison, suspended, assessed costs and restitution; convicted of probation violation, court revoked all previously suspended time, resuspended conditionally, assessed costs.
• Jayson Hill, Ararat, convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, sentenced to 12 months in jail with all time suspended except 38 days, fined $250 and costs; convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended, fined $250 and costs; convicted of brandishing a firearm, sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended, fined $250 and costs.
• Staci Shantel Marable, Martinsville, charged with robbery, convicted of assault and battery, sentenced to 12 months in jail with all time suspended except 20 days, assessed $400 fine, costs and restitution; convicted of failure to appear in court, sentenced to two days in jail, assessed costs.
• Robert Davis Gray, Meadows of Dan, convicted of misdemeanor brandishing a firearm, sentenced to 12 months in jail with all time suspended except 10 days, fined $300 and costs; charged with brandishing a firearm, found not guilty.
• Kassandra Renee Calderone, Spencer, convicted of shoplifting, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except 10 days, assessed $250 fine, costs and restitution.
• Geneva Dillon Doss, Stuart, charged with obtaining money by false pretense, found not guilty.
• Brittany Nicole Fitzgerald, Bassett, convicted of misdemeanor shoplifting, sentenced to 30 days in jail, suspended, assessed $200 fine, costs and restitution.
• Ananda Anderson, charged with failure to appear in court, case dismissed.
• Israel Branch, Stuart, convicted of probation violation, court revoked nine months of previously suspended sentence, assessed costs.
• James Wade Edwards, Stuart, charged with failure to appear in court, case dismissed.
• Lindsey Edwards, Ararat, convicted of failure to appear in court, fined $100 and costs.
• Jared Shawn Jessup, Ararat, charged with possession of a controlled substance, found guilty of disorderly conduct, assessed costs.
• Joe Edmond King, Ararat, convicted of probation violation, court revoked 30 days of previously suspended time, assessed costs.
• Don Eric Rucker, Stuart, convicted of trespassing, sentenced to 12 months in jail with all time suspended except 14 days, assessed costs.
• Bruce Allen Spencer Jr., Bassett, convicted of probation violation, court revoked 60 days of previously suspended sentence, assessed costs.
• James Tucker Wray, Spencer, charged with petit larceny and with possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, complied with conditions imposed by the court, cases dismissed.
