A two-vehicle crash resulted in the death of a Martinsville doctor.

The crash occurred Monday, Jan 12, at 6:17 p.m. on Route 122, one tenth of a mile north of Jubal Early Highway in Franklin County, according to a release from the Virginia State Police.

A 2018 Acura RDX was traveling south on Booker T. Washington Highway when it struck a 1989 Mack truck in the rear.

The driver of the Acura was identified as Diane Louise Rowell, 69, of Moneta, Va. Ms. Rowell was wearing her seatbelt and was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where she later died from injuries received in the crash.

Rowell was employed at the hospital in Stuart before its 2017 closure.

The crash remains under investigation.
